Yet Christine gradually wins the clan’s trust with her zoological expertise, healing Eric and beast cubs, and disabling poachers’ traps. Bonded by shared betrayal trauma, the two fall for each other amid constant friction. Jealous female warrior Nala repeatedly plots against Christine, whose wit foils every scheme. Simon, the hidden poaching ringleader, abducts Christine. After she escapes back to the canyon, human mercenaries launch a brutal assault. Eric is shot gravely wounded, and Christine braves the whole tribe’s suspicion to bring human vets to perform emergency surgery, temporarily easing the bitter rift between humans and beastmen.
