The story begins with Cherry Mother trapped in a cruel, impoverished marriage. After a near-fatal fall while cleaning skyscraper windows, her abusive husband takes their young son and abandons her in the mud. She is rescued by the wealthy, kind Golden Mango man, who marries her and gives her a life of luxury. Though grateful, Cherry Mother never stops grieving her lost first child. She finally reunites with the boy, who has been forced to beg on the streets, just as she goes into labor with her second son.
Driven by vengeance, Cherry’s ex-husband sneaks into the hospital, assaults the delivering doctor, steals his identity, and pours a mysterious black liquid over the newborn Golden Mango baby. The infant’s skin turns completely black, planting doubt in Golden Mango and throwing the family into crisis. The ex-husband kidnaps Cherry Mother and the baby, is caught and imprisoned, then digs a tunnel to escape. He firebombs the family mansion and abducts Little Cherry, issuing a ten-million-dollar ransom demand.
