MLB draft prospect Tate Walsh gets blamed when a filthy guide meant for teammate Jude leaks through the locker room. Gideon Mercer, Tate's honorary uncle, emergency contact, and the donor keeping the team quiet, shuts the scandal down, then brings the guide home and demands Tate explain every word. Tate thinks Gideon is punishing him. Gideon is really jealous. When Jude says, "Your uncle's in love with you," Tate starts seeing the truth. Then his runaway mother returns with a worse twist: Tate was never a Mercer. Gideon knew, and he has stopped trying to be an uncle.
