Thirty‑four‑year‑old elite New‑York lawyer Sophia suffers both a painful breakup and unfair workplace treatment. Drunk and emotionally distraught, she misreads a text message and accidentally bursts into a church in a small unfamiliar town. She blurts out “I object” during a stranger’s wedding, throwing the ceremony of Jake O’Connor’s relatives into chaos. Jake’s elderly grandmother Rosa mistakes Sophia for Jake’s girlfriend. Concerned about the grandmother’s fragile heart condition, the two strike a deal to pretend to be lovers temporarily to spare her from shock.
